Vision Screenings
Who: PK-3 grade yearly, even numbered grades through 10th, staff referred students, and new students
What: A noninvasive, fast and effective way to screen children for common vision deficiencies.
Where: In the nurse's office or student classroom
When: November
Why: Visual impairments affect a child's ability to learn
How: With appropriate vision screening tools: posters, vision screening machine, etc.
Growth and Development Screenings
Who: All students
What: Weight, height, and blood pressure
Where: In an area that assures student's privacy
When: Pk-6 in October, 7-12 in April
Why: To assure students are growing on the right track and to detect any associated health problems early so that lifestyle changes can be made.
How: Using appropriate medical equipment
Hearing Screenings
Who: PK-3 yearly, 7th Grade, staff referred students, and new students
What: A noninvasive, fast and easy way to screen children for any hearing deficiencies.
Where: In the nurse's office or another quiet room on campus.
When: October
Why: Hearing deficits in children can interfere with
normal speech and language development, communication, and the ability to learn.
How: With an audiometer machine
Dental Screenings
Who: All students K-8
What: A quick and easy noninvasive visual check of dental health by a dental professional
Where: In the nurse's office
When: November
Why: To assure children that need dental healthcare receive it in a timely manner, you only get one set of adult teeth, we have to take care of them!
How: A dental hygienist uses a light and a tongue depressor to look in the mouth for any cavities or evidence of infection.
